NEW DELHI: Speaking at the opening of the Yoga Mahotsav 2023, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Ayush, Sarbananda Sonowal mentioned about the various benefits of yoga in the day to day life and called upon the corporate sector to make options to practice yoga at the workplace.

The Union minister mentioned that Yoga has managed to reach the masses under the strong commitments of prime minister Narendra Modi. This has led to the practice of Yoga becoming a global trend, thus helping people to come across a healthier lifestyle.

“Corporate India has also played a critical part towards achieving this. Towards furthering our commitment towards a healthier tomorrow, I call upon all the Corporate houses to set up a ‘Yoga Cell’ in their workplace, so that the employees and staff at the office can reap the benefit of Yoga. This will not only rejuvenate the working class of India but also help the corporates to optimise efficiency.” mentioned the minister.

Sarbananda Sonwal also launched a short video on “Y” Break Yoga to encourage more people to incorporate yoga into their daily life. He also mentioned that the Ayush ministry is coming up with several initiatives to encourage more and more youth to take up Yoga. Some of them include IDY Pledge, Poll/Survey, IDY Jingle, IDY Quiz and “Yoga My Pride” Photography Contest and many more will be conducted this year as part of the International Day of Yoga countdown on the MyGov India platform.

He also mentioned the extensive scientific evidence-based research that has been conducted in India as well as other countries in the domains of Clinical Research, Randomized Control Trials, Systematic Review and Meta-analysis, fundamental review etc. Clinical research includes Lifestyle disorders like Diabetes, Hypertension, Cardiac disorder, Cancer, Asthma and PCOD. And all the research points to the health benefits of Yoga in the day to day life.
